"We are, as never before, a travelling, 'sight-seeing', 'place-knowing' race of humans. It is a privilege."

With many of my adventures cancelled this year, what better way to explore the world than via a book. I have to confess, I haven't yet finished this book. But so far, I am really enjoying it.

The book is divided into four sections, delving deeply into different eras of writing: romantic, modernism, post-war and contemporary. Settings are the main focus of the book and the author has done plenty of research into how landscapes manipulate the stories and in some cases even become one of the characters themselves.

Within this book, I have come across some of my favourite stories, such as Anne of Green Gables, learnt more about some classics that I probably should have read by now and also some that I have never heard of.

This book has transported me to lots of places, in a year when travel has been restricted and I am really grateful for it. I have explored the moors of England, Paris, the highlands, Russia, Canada and the Mississippi River.

Literary Landscapes isn't a traditional read, every couple of pages talks about a different book, so it is very easy to pick up and put down. There is so much detail in there, that it is taking me ages to read. But I am really enjoying taking in all the information and exploring the history and locations of famous books.

What books did you enjoy this year? Did you get any new books for Christmas?
