5 Reasons To Stay in Sant'Agnello

Writer's picture: wanderlustlibwanderlustlib

Sant’Agnello is a beautiful town just a short walk from bustling Sorrento and I would recommend a stay there to anyone. With incredible views across to Vesuvius and horizons spanning a bright blue sea, it is easy to understand why people who holiday here just can’t get enough! Here are my five reasons to stay in Sant’Agnello.

  1. Easy Walk To Sorrento

As I mentioned above, Sant’Agnello is a short walk away from the busy Sorrento centre. The walk is about 15 minutes and I suggest following the path that takes you along the clifftops, not only are the views breathtaking but this route is more pedestrianised and safer than following the main road (Corso Italia) where paths disappear and blend with the road on occasion. By taking the clifftop route, you can also spot some eateries and bars along the way and get inspiration for your next night out!

2. Stunning Hotels

We stayed in Hotel Mediterraneo Sorrento for one week and thought the whole experience was dreamlike. From arrival to check out, the staff went the extra mile to make sure you were comfortable and were incredibly helpful with any requests you had. There is a free shuttle bus, run by the hotel, which you can use to get yourself into Sorrento in 5 minutes, but sometimes it’s nice to make the most of a walk. The hotel is perhaps famous for its rooftop bar, Vista Sky Bar, which is an incredibly luxurious place to sit and enjoy a few drinks. Guests of the hotel get to sit in reserved areas which makes you feel so special! The food at the hotel is simply brilliant and there were so many options of what to eat throughout the day. There is ample space to relax around by the pool too, if you do fancy a more chilled day instead of exploring. Hotel Mediterraneo has struck up a deal with the nearby Marinella ‘beach’ where you can reserve sunbeds to be even closer to the crystal blue waters. – however, be mindful that it's not a beach as we would know it but instead a jetty with steps into the sea.

3. Small, But Not Quiet

Although many people visiting this area dart to Sorrento on their Amalfi Coast adventures, Sant’Agnello is a perfect addition to stop – or base yourself for a longer stay. Sant’Agnello is small, but not quiet. Along the main road, there are a few bars and restaurants that give you a taste of ‘La Dolce Vita’ sitting roadside with wine and pizza. There are also more places to eat nearer the sea, where the views are breathtaking.

Here are my recommendations for wining and dining in Sant'Agnello:

4. Transport

As I mentioned, Sorrento is only a short walk away from Sant’Agnello, but if you are looking to venture further afield there is a train station with a line that runs from Naples to Sorrento, so is very easy to navigate. Trains run regularly and are fairly priced. We caught the train to Pompeii – more about that in a post coming soon! From Sorrento, you can catch the ferry to Capri, but make sure to book this in advance! Or hop on the various boat trips that take you to Amalfi, Positano, Ravello and more. Many people enjoy driving the Amalfi Coast and I understand why, the sweeping roads and quaint villages are breathtaking – but I just enjoy seeing it all from the water.

5. Traditional

Although the whole area around Sorrento has become a popular tourist destination, I do think Sant’Agnello has held on to its traditional roots. A few roads away from the 5-Star Hotels are the residential streets, so you do feel like you are getting an authentic taste of Italian life but never being too far away from people who speak English and can offer directions when you get lost!

I think Sant’Agnello is truly brilliant and a fantastic place to base yourself for an unforgettable Amalfi Coast Adventure!
