If you are lucky enough to visit Dubrovnik, here are my top picks for a perfect date day with the special people in your life!
A visit to nearby Lapad will provide you with a 'beachy' vibe, with scenic views of the port but also lovely walks to Lapad Bay Beach. The beaches in this area are pebble beaches, not sand. If you do visit Lapad, you will find lots of bars and restaurants, the food in Croatia is delicious and they specialise in yummy fish dishes. However, you can also find themed restaurants like Italian there. I would visit Lapad in the late afternoon or evening, by the bay are lots of beachfront bars with an amazing array of cocktails on offer. There is also a cave bar which sits in the cliffs with amazing views.
You can reach Lapad from the Old Town by a bus service that runs very regularly or it is just as easy to catch a taxi.
Whilst in the Old Town, the best photo opportunities present themselves whilst walking the walls. It can be quite steep in parts, so you need to think about sensible footwear! It is best to walk the walls in the early morning or late evening as you are in direct sunlight and there isn't much shade. However, there are some places to get drinks on the way round and places you can stop the walk. It can take you a while to get round the whole circuit, especially if like me, you stop to look at every single thing!
When you reach lower ground again, the streets of Dubrovnik are very easy to navigate and there are lots of points of interest to help you find your way again. There are so many delicious food stops, bars and sweet shops within the walls for you to enjoy.
If you are a fan of Game of Thrones or history, you will enjoy taking one of the guided walking tours. There are lots to choose from depending on what you like to learn about. The guides have always been very informative when I have been there and I have really enjoyed learning more about the city I am visiting. I would recommend taking a bottle of water with you as you cover a lot of ground and it can be quite hot!
From the Old Town, you can also catch a ferry to the island of Lokrum. This is a beautiful place with something for everyone to enjoy there. There are monuments and ruins for the history fan, wild peacocks and rabbits for the animal lover and a little lake to swim in and hills to climb for the adventure seeker. There is so much to explore! Although the island is small and the boats run frequently to and from Dubrovnik, it has never felt crowded. There are places to get food and drink as you walk around.
For a romantic trip, you can visit the Elafiti Islands. Here you will find quiet, idyllic islands, with white sand beaches and clear blue seas. Much like Lokrum there are places to explore, but equal opportunity to relax and spend time with the person you love.
