What to see and do when you have 72 hours in Copenhagen!
Tivoli Gardens
Thought to be the inspiration behind Walt Disney's Disneyland parks, Tivoli Gardens is an amusement park right in the centre of the city. There is a whole mixture of things to get up to when you spend the day here, from rides, restaurants, market huts and traditional games (my favourite is Galoppen). If rides are your thing, my advice would be to buy the Unlimited Ride Ticket when you enter. This entitles you multiple goes on every single ride. If you would rather stroll around the gardens and dip into a few of the rides, it would be best to pay the entrance rate and add any additional ride passes as you choose. It is a beautiful place to go, especially during one of the themed seasons. I went during Halloween and there was a pumpkin festival, with lots of decorations and themed activities. Much like the magic of Disneyland, you get fully transported to a whole new place, completely forgetting you are in the middle of a busy city.
Carlsberg Brewery Tour
For the beer lovers out there, or if you are interested in history. The Carlsberg Brewery is located just outside of the main city and is really easy to get to via train. The tour shows you the process of how beer is made, the history of the recipe and also how conditions for the workers have changed over time. It shares the story of beer alongside key events in history and explaining their impact on production. It was a really interesting day out and fun to see one of the largest collections of unopened beer bottles in the world.
Nyhavn
Nyhavn is one of those locations you must see in the city. It is where you can take your own iconic photographs of the multicoloured houses. Along with a gorgeous walk by the river, you can eat in some lovely restaurants and bars.
Sankt Peders Bageri
One of the best places to buy treats in Copenhagen is Sankt Peders Bageri. Finding this bakery is a great way to explore some of the different avenues and streets off the main roads. The bakery is located in the Latin Quarter, where you can find lots of independent stores and cafes. Sankt Peders Bageri is well known for their Cinnamon Rolls, they sell over 4000 of them a day! However, you can also buy lots of other sweet and savoury snacks too.
Rosenborg Castle
The Rosenborg Castle is a renaissance designed castle, furnished in the style of the monarchs between the 17th to 19th century. You can also sneak a peek at the crown jewels which are stored in a safe basement vault. This was fantastic to learn more about history and is located not too far from the current royal residencies, which you can see too!
The Round Tower
The Round Tower is a 17th century observatory and is the oldest functioning observatory in Europe. Throughout history, Copenhagen has been famed for its astronomical achievements, making the tower a truly iconic part of the city. It is a mighty walk to the top, you follow a roughly 209m spiralling ramp to the top of the tower, so you need to be prepared for a long walk! On the way up, there are places that you can stop and read some information, so you can take as much time as you need. In fact, I would recommend you take your time, to take in all the little bits of history and see what you can spot. Once you reach the top, you can admire a 360 degree view of the entire city. It is well worth the walk.
Obviously there is a lot more to see and do, these are just my highlights. Have you visited Copenhagen? What was your favourite part? Join in the conversation on Instagram with #EmsLIbraryClub or follow @wanderlustlibrary_
