Haunting, gripping and creepy. A book that made me feel like I was blindfolded and someone was spinning me around!
This book had me truly hooked from the beginning and had me constantly asking questions throughout. The book follows the story of an estranged Nanny, through the eyes of all the characters involved. In this way, at points the book could appear a bit confusing as you were trying to place each character and remember where you had left them before. However, the more I progressed with the book, the more I became familiar with each character and their individual quirks.
After a skull surfaces in the lake of a stately family home, everyone's lives become scrutinised and every action looked at through a magnifying glass. Your allegiance with each character becomes tested and I found myself changing sides regularly. The book was truly puzzling, in the best way, I had to keep closing the book and taking some time to digest what I had just read. I just could not work it out! And trust me, I was desperate to try!
The characters in the book are weird and their lifestyle unlike anything most people are used to today. In a way, this makes it hard to connect to the story and understand it. However, in my eyes, I feel like this added to the creepiness of the story, the characters already felt distant.
